  2. On your periodic table, locate and color in the following elements with one map pencil or crayon: Group 13: B Group 14: Si and Ge Group 15: As and Sb Group 16: Te and Po Group 17: At

  3. Your periodic table should look something like this:

  4. These elements are called • Metalloids • Notice how it looks like they form a stair step? They actually divide the metals and non-metals on the periodic table. • They have properties of both metals and non-metals.

  5. Stop now and take time to create a color key for your periodic table! Your color key should look something like this: Metalloids

  6. Now using a different colored map pencil or crayon, locate and color in the elements you see colored red on the next page:

  7. These elements are called • Non Metals • Notice how Hydrogen is all by itself on the left-hand side of the periodic table • All the way on the other side of the Periodic Table, in Group 18, you will find the Noble Gases.

  8. Don’t forget to add this new information to your color key!

  9. Now using a different colored map pencil or crayon, locate and color the elements that are colored red on the next slide:

  10. These elements are recognized as • Metals • They are usually lustrous, malleable, and good conductors of heat and electricity
