  4. Raul Barahona • 2nd semester Freshman • Major: Computer Engineering Software • Learned: more about circuits, sensors, motors, and sound; how expensive it is to develop electronics • Course’s Effect on Future: work more with hardware; code and build own robot as personal project

  5. UF Goals: get involved with Robotics Club and UF Programming Team • Career Goals: work at Microsoft; become a developer for Xbox • Words of Wisdom: Do the best you can with what life has given you! Use your time in college carefully and enjoy it as well. Find something you are passionate about and hold on to it. That way you end up doing something you love!

  6. Mohamed ElKarawy • Sophomore • Major: Mechanical Engineering • Gained first hand experience when seeing robots for first time; learned about circuits and teamwork • Course’s Effect on Future: Didn’t impact future plans, but robots are cool

UF Plans: get an ME degree; get more involved in mechanical engineering societies • Career Goals: get a job in one of the top automotive companies • Words of Wisdom: "The Germans are clear about what they do - cars and machine tools; the Japanese are clear about what they do - electronics; the Chinese are clear about what they do - they're the workshop of the world.“ -Evan Davis

  8. Jackie Schneider • 2nd semester Freshman • Major: Engineering (undecided) • Gained: understanding of mechanics and applications of robots • Future Impact: taking programming classes in summer

  9. UF Plans: • Choose major(s) • Get degrees(s) • Career Plans: • Explore the world • Get job(s) • Words of Wisdom: can do anything, but not everything (try not to overburden yourself)

Daniel Ward • 1st year freshman; majoring in Aerospace Engineering • Learned importance of teamwork & hands-on learning • Gained: knowledge on proper circuitry building; insight on how interfaces can limit originality • Course’s Effect on Future Plans: • Design better tech for researching other planets • Expand importance of science to society

UF Goals: • Lead AeroGators on future autonomous aircraft designs • Continue working in MIL and improve the PropaGator over the years • Attain degree in Aerospace Engineering • Career Goals: work for company like NASA and be part of mission discovering life on another planet • Words of Wisdom: “There is more depth of beauty in the fantasy of the real.” –Hank Green

The Robot, The Legend • Initially not keen on adventure • Had to be programmed for exact tasks • Over course of weeks, acquired • Stealth (avoid obstacles) • Night vision (sense darkness) • Communication (play a tune) • Culminating in ability to travel all over table and arrive safely back home

  15. Team Conclusions Technology is unpredictable. At one moment, your design is flawless; the next moment, everything fails. It only goes to show that you should always expect the unexpected.
