  1. Welcome to the 2013 National Conference Royal Pines Resort, Gold Coast 16th & 17th May

  2. 2013 National Conference Retiring President, Professor Richard Larkins introducing new President, Ms Deidre Anderson…

  3. Exploring the Future of Sport Seeking value-add drivers • The alignment of campus sport and the university’s strategy • The future of SSAF – how can sport get its fair share? • Mega trends shaping the sports sector over the coming decades (CSIRO) • Research, benchmarking and governance

  4. Strategic alignment It is evident that significant structural change has and is occurring across the sector in respect to how sport is delivered on campuses: QUT; Uni-SA; USQ; JCU; and Murdoch…to name a few. Is this better positioning sport strategically on campuses?

  5. SSAF Is it here to stay? Is sport getting enough? What can we do the ensure sport gets its fair share?

  6. Sport sector “megatrends” “A megatrend is defined as a major shift in environmental, social and economic conditions that will substantially alter the way people live. Six megatrends have been identified within The Future of Australian Sport report which will impact on the makeup of sport in Australia over the next 30 years” (CSIRO and the Australian Sports Commission, 2013).

  7. The six megatrends shaping the future of sport in Australia • A perfect fit • From extreme to mainstream • More than sport • Everybody’s game • New wealth, new talent • Tracksuits to business suits (www.ausport.gov.au/future)

  8. AUS Research Project 2013 The questions: Whether student participation in sport at university (including social, recreational and competitive sport) affect the student’s sense of wellbeing, connection to place and if this translates to higher retention and graduation rates; and Does a correlation exist between employability, high achieving professionals and their sporting activities whilst they were at university? (Dr EvelyneMeier)

  9. Benchmarking Project Lobbying for the support of sport at campus, state and national levels is increasingly dependent upon accountability, good governance* and the ability to capture key information about investment and return. With the help of The Centre for Tourism and Leisure Management (CERM), GO8 Universities (and Martin Doulton’spresentation today) we aim to make big strides in respect to industry benchmarking this year.

  10. Housekeeping • Voting for Storyboards (afternoon-T break) • Breakout room is upstairs (Cypress Room) • Tonight’s function is upstairs (Hydrate Bar) • Friday A.M. check-out • Bus to airport Friday (depart 3.30pm) – book your seat with Michelle or Siobhan
