Applicant preferences • Applicants identify up to four preferences for places in TAFEWA qualifications. • Applicants are awarded a place in their highest ranked TAFEWA qualification for which they have: • met the entry requirements, and • where required, have gained a score against the selection criteria that is high enough to gain a place in the qualification. Qualifications with entry requirements only • TAFEWA qualifications • more places than applicants on a Statewide basis • Identified by Department of Education and Training using information from: • TAFEWA Admissions • DET Planning • Curriculum Services Support Network [CSSN] Department of Education and Training

Qualifications with entry requirements and selection criteria • TAFEWA qualifications • more applicants than places on a Statewide basis • more applicants than places at any particular TAFEWA College campus • numbers of applicants for qualification: • are difficult to predict • vary from year to year • are predicted to rise Department of Education and Training

  10. Entry requirements • Entry requirements expressed as competencies or competency based qualifications. May comprise: • Generic competency statements • Technical competencies • Competency based qualifications • A set of generic competency statements have been identified by DET covering writing, reading,numeracy and oral communication Department of Education and Training

  11. DESCRIPTOR A Writes about a familiar topic using simple sentence structure and joining ideas through conjunctive links where appropriate. Completes forms or writes notes using factual or personal information relating to familiar contexts. DESCRIPTOR D Communicates complex relationships between ideas by matching style of writing to purpose and audience. Selection criteria scoring model • Fifty point model • Details of scoring model to be published • Three areas in which points are scored: • Qualification pathways - up to 10 points • Workplace experience / employment - up to 20 points • Education / skill development - up to 20 points Department of Education and Training

Source of guidance • TAFEWA Admissions contacts school leavers who apply and are unsuccessful, provides initial advice and deals with routine matters ie: applicant submitted incomplete form • TAFEWA Admissions refers unsuccessful applicants to appropriate course / career advisory unit • Career Development Centre Department of Education and Training

  23. Setting of entry requirements and selection criteria • Entry requirements and selection criteria set by Department of Education and Training • Department consults with: • Curriculum Services Support Network [CSSN] • TAFEWA Colleges • TAFEWA Admissions Department of Education and Training

Scope of arrangements • All applications for full time places except: • qualifications that stem from local arrangements between TAFEWA College and local enterprises, industry organisations and /or the community • applicants for full time places in qualifications offered on a fee-for-service or commercial basis • applications from current TAFEWA students who are seeking full time places in qualifications with entry requirements only • accredited courses without clear vocational outcomes.
