  2. Overview of Project • EBP’s • Pre-assessment/Teaming • Student Progress Monitoring (SPM) • Implementation Checklists • Coaching Log • Contact Log • Trainer Roles • Other Considerations

  3. Evidence Based Practices • What is an ”evidence based practice”? • Who decides? • 24 EBPs identified by the NPDC-ASD • Related Resource: AIM Modules • You already use many of these strategies in your practice. Which one(s) will you add?

  4. Minnesota’s top 10 EPBs • 1. Prompting • 2. Task Analysis • 3. Peer-mediated Instruction • 4. Self Management • 5. Social Skills Group • 6. Antecedent-based interventions • 7. Videomodeling • 8. Visual Supports • 9. Structured Work Systems • 10. Social Narratives

  5. EBP Group Activity: Know it & show it • One EBP per team • Spend 20 minutes learning about your EPB (online, provided materials, current knowledge of a team member, mentor assistance) • Use your collective imagination to decide how to teach it to the rest of the group in 5 minutes or less. Act it out! Provide a visual! Use props! Have fun! • Go!

  6. Pre-assessment of ebps • Review your use of EBPs • EBP Inventory • Teams: list top 5 most familiar EBPs and list top 5 most interested EPBs

  7. Example of team ebp activity

  8. Student Progress Monitoring • System for observing and documenting individual student progress • Aligned with goals/objectives • Flows from PLEP • Serves as a progress report • Allows teams to anticipate student excelling beyond expectation

  9. SPM Activity • each team will develop one goal (SPM) for one child and a data sheet • the team will then identify which EBP they will use for that goal • based on the EBP chosen, the team will write another goal (SPM) and a data sheet that will use the same EBP for that student or another target student

  10. SPM Example Eli’s goal: Upon arrival at school, Eli will enter the building, go to his locker, remove and place clothing items in the appropriate place, gather needed materials, transition to his classroom, and seat himself at his desk.

  11. SPM Data You will have SPM Worksheet per targeted skill/objective Determine current level once a month (-2, -1.5, -1, -.5, 0, +.5, +1) Have a place were you keep the SPM worksheets and data points

  12. Implementation checklist • Purpose of implementation checklists • To train teams on how to go about developing and implementing a practice • To increase fidelity of EPB implementation • Directions on completion of the implementation checklists that accompany the NPDC-ASD EBPs • Directions on how to determine fidelity • Percentage of steps = # of 2s over total # of steps • Report to Program Coordinator periodically

  13. Practice using an implementation checklist

  14. Coaching Log • Review • Frequency • Suggestions for use

  15. Contact Log • Teams will use this form to document their time working on the project including: • Coach/coachee teaming • Intervention planning • Intervention implementation • Progress monitoring • Intervention review and revise

  16. Trainer role • Trainer will collect the following data at four points next year • SPM scores • Number of coach/coachee contacts • Fidelity scores from Implementation Checklists
