The School Curriculum (1) S1 and S2 (ages 12 – 14) • A broad-based curriculum • No specialisms • Problem to fit all subjects in to the timetable • Curriculum Structure Group .doc • Scottish curriculum undergoing major redevelopment • http://www.ltscotland.org.uk/curriculumforexcellence/index.asp

  6. The School Curriculum (2) S3 and S4 (ages 14 – 16) • 6 option groups • Maths, English, RE, PE & PSE compulsory • National exams at end of S4 • http://www.sqa.org.uk

The School Curriculum (3) S5 and S6 (ages 16 – 18) • In S5, Higher / Intermediate 2 courses last one year • 5 option groups each must be filled • In S6 Advanced Higher lasts one further year • Some students may re-sit failed Highers • Some may “crash” new subjects at Higher • http://www.sqa.org.uk
