  2. Coaching to Success: The 7 Layers “I absolutely believe that people, unless coached, never reach their maximum capabilities.” -Bob Mardelli, CEO, Home Depot About coaching: • What most business people think of as “coaching” isn’t. • Coaching is not about getting people to do stuff. But when coached, people perform far • better than when their bosses demand compliance. • Coaching builds sustainable motivation. It does so by building a bridge from intention to practice, creating a support structure for realizing untapped potential. • A Fortune Magazine study found that companies that hire coaches for their executives report an ROI of roughly six times what the coaching cost the company About Coaching to Success: The 7 Layers • Participants collaborate in an 8-month community of mutual support and challenge to • explore and practice the essential skills of cultivating competence and confidence in others. • In highly interactive class sessions, participants explore the seven layers of coaching effective-ness that transform temporary compliance into sustainable behavior and attitude change. • Participants regularly apply course concepts and methods to real-world situations, reporting back to the class on the results of their experiments. In dialogue with their peers and the facilitator, they discover ways to enhance their coaching effectiveness in these situations. • Each participant receives one hour per month of 1-on-1 professional telecoaching support. • Apre-workshop 360o feedback survey shows participants their leadership challenges. A similar survey at the end of the program shows the progress they’ve made. • Sessions are designed and facilitated by Steve Motenko, a Harvard-educated, certified professional coach who has coached managers at Boeing, Microsoft, Expeditors, and dozens of other organizations across the country.
