Measured by passing scores on all four sections of the General Knowledge Test– math, reading, English language, and essay (State law—GK must be passed within one year of hire date to continue teaching).

  13. The Beginning Teacher Programs are part of Leon County Schools’ systematic approach to cultivating and retaining highly qualified teachers. To that end, program staff are charged with providing specified professional development opportunities, along with district and school-based support, needed for successful completion of a beginning teacher program. Mission Statement

  14. BT Program Requirements08-09 Florida DOE-required Tests— COE/TPP… 3 tests(usually completed prior to entering program). PEC…. 3 tests(GK has 4 sections) DEC… No tests required. Competency-based seminars… Effective Classroom Management(off campus). Reading Strategies and Technology Training (school-based). Professional Ethics—on-line course through PAEC (for all BTs). NEW! FOCS Group(competency training in cohort groups off campus)
