  2. The Eatwell Plate • To keep healthy it is important to eat a BALANCED diet. • The Eatwell Plate can help us understand how much we should eat of different types of food.

  3. The Eatwell Plate The Eatwell Plate is divided into five different sections: • Fruit and vegetables • Potatoes, bread, rice, pasta and starchy foods • Meat, fish, eggs and beans • Milk and dairy foods • Food and drinks high in fat and sugar

The Eatwell Plate • The Eatwell Plate tells us our diet should be made up of: • 33% - Bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and other starchy foods • 33% - Fruit and vegetables • 15% - Milk and dairy foods • 12% - Meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein • 8% - Foods and drinks high in fat and/or sugar

  5. The Eatwell Plate We can see from the Eatwell Plate that we only need a small amount of foods high in fats, sugar and salt. The way that a dish is prepared can change whether it is high in salt, sugar and fat. By making small changes we can often make a dish much healthier.
