  3. Performance • Section Planning meeting held in June 2003 • Received Section Performance Award in Houston in October 2003 • Compiling our Section Performance Submission for 2004 • Held 10 Committee meetings

  4. Goals & Objectives • Expand the locations of Technical Talks. • Increase the number of site visits. • Maintain & broaden the membership base. • Increase our profile Nationally & Internationally . • More effective transfer of information, via newsletter and web site. • Develop & improve our interaction with student sections.

  5. Technical Programme • We have held 12 technical talks throughout the country. Gas Emissions, IEC 61508, ATEX, Static / Earthing, Humidity, Thermal Calibration, Calibration & Maintenance Intervals, Electronic Manufacturing / Paperless Batch Tracking, Emergency Shutdown Valves, Hazardous Area Fieldbus Applications

  6. Technical Programme(contd) • We have held 4 Plant Visits. DePuy (Ringaskiddy) Vistakon (Limerick) Amersham Health (Carrigtwohill) Eli Lilly (Kinsale)

  7. Activities Sponsored By the Section • Control & Automation in the Communications Era. This was a symposium held by Eoin O’Riain of Readout, and sponsored by the ISA Ireland section, held in September 2003.

  8. Additional Activities Held By the Section • ISA Industry Dinner in October 2003. 1 To celebrate our section winning “Gold” in the World Section Performance Awards. 2 In recognition of the first member in Ireland, Mr. Bob Shine, to be awarded the Society’s Golden Achievement Award, for 25 years dedicated service. 3 We also presented two Special Recognition Awards, for dedicated service.

  9. Membership • We currently have a membership count of 265. We have recently carried out an email to all non members who attended technical talks throughout the year and hope this will yield some new membership. We also have implemented a new procedure where by we monitor lapsed members at each committee meeting.

  10. “INCON” News Letter • This year to date we have issued 5 copies of our newsletter to our membership. Within the newsletter we name and welcome any new members, we include information on past and upcoming activities, we include information from out standards and practices chair, and we provide contact details for the committee.

  11. Standards & Practices • This year to date we have reviewed quite a few standards and compiled a brief report on each. Details of the standards reviewed are available from our newsletter and also on our web site.

  12. Conference • We are in the process of planning our conference at present. This will be held in November 2004 and entitled “Emerging Technologies” Topics include : Validation of New Technologies Biometrics Wireless Technology Vertical Integration Process analytical Technology

  13. Education • This year to date we have opened two knowledge centres, one in CIT Cork, and the other in FAS Cork. We have carried out technical talks in both institutions for the students. We have also sponsored a student membership drive where we offered reduced rates for students to join the ISA, and we have now student members in the Limerick and Sligo Institute of Technologies, also.

  14. Honours & Awards • We held our annual Honours and Awards event in December 2003, which was also attended by Lowell McCaw and his wife Barbara. Again this year, the Lord Mayor of Cork presented the following awards. Craft Apprentice Award Technician Award Technologist Award Technology Achievement Award Ger Dullea Award Instrument Pioneer Award

  15. Exhibition • Our annual exhibition will be held this year in the Rochestown Park Hotel, on next Tuesday, 11th May. We have 43 exhibitors and 58 stands. We are also hosting a free seminar, to run concurrently with the exhibition and have approximately 6 papers being presented at same.

  16. Past Presidents Sub Committee • This committee was established in 2002 as an external reference and advice body for the main committee. • Its role is of an advisory capacity, and any recommendations or motions put forward for consideration are carried out using the standard parliamentary procedures. • The immediate Section Past President is the Chairperson of this sub committee, and the liaison between the two committees.
