  8. Actually, NO. Did we Have a Big Budget? Health Activities Budget is about $36 per person for the year 2003

For 2003, we managed to achieve the following: Staff who feel stressed from work – Drop from 90% in 2002 to 52% in 2003 Staff who exercise daily – Increase from 10% in 2002 to 33% in 2003 Staff with high cholesterol level – Drop from 57.9% in 2002 to 38.4% in 2003 Staff with high blood pressure – Drop from 14% in 2002 to 2% in 2003 How about the Returns of Investment?

Leadership CEO declared 5pm-6pm on every Thursday as “Healthy Hour” so that staff can participate in health activities Our Senior Management takes the lead in promoting health activities Support For Policy Change Senior management actively supports policy change Any new policies are tabled to SVP, Group HR & Admin and CEO for approval. Some examples of policies implemented: No smoking rule Healthy Catering Policy Management Support Management shows support in 3 main areas: Taking the leadership, Support Policy Changes and Active Participation

  13. 1. Sources of Employees’ Feedback Organizational climate survey is conducted every alternate year Lifestyle and activity survey conducted at the end of each year. Some of such activities that we had conducted as a result of this survey, included: Salsa dance classes Extension of Fruit-a-Week Captain’s ball Ball Festival Health Screening Report by National Kidney Foundation 2. Closed Loop Feedback Employees’ and Management’s Feedback Proper programme planning, with clear objectives stated, is an integral part of our success.

When we started planning for our Calendar of Events for 2003, our sources of feedback revealed that: • 90% of our staff faced a high level of stress at work and do not know how to cope with them – 2002 Organisation Climate Survey • 10% of the staff indicated that they exercise daily – 2002 Lifestyle and Activity Survey • 57.9% of staff has high cholesterol level and 14% has high blood pressure – 2002 Health Screening Exercise As an example…

Starting an Exercise Routine Talk on Choosing the Correct Sports Shoe Weekly Jogs Also other outdoor activities like Street Soccer, Mini Tennis As an example… (cont’d) We organised our activities around 3 main focal areas: Healthy Eating, Stress Management and Starting an Exercise Routine Healthy Eating • Sandwich making contest • How to manage your Weight • Talk on Hypertension Stroke & Diet • A Fruit A Week Stress Management • Massage sessions • Salsa Dance Classes • Tennis Clinic • Street Soccer • Bowling Tournament • Talk on Acupressure

Examples: Singapore Food Industries (SFI) Sponsored prizes for the inter-department sandwich making contest To mark the finale of Fruit-A-Week, SFI also sponsored discount vouchers for staff to make purchases at SFI’s e-mart Partners’ Network Our close contacts with some of our suppliers help us defray some of the cost • Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped • They came to provide head & shoulder massages for our staff at the rate of $10 for a 20-minute massage • Health Promotion Board • Provide free talks from time to time and loan of exhibition posters • Singapore Sports Council • Provide subsidised talks on topics like Choosing a Correct Sports Shoes

  17. Comprises of representatives from various departments, headed by the Senior Manager, HR & Admin Not only are they committed, they represent various interest groups in PacNet. Hence, they assist in organising some of the outdoor activities in our Calendar of Events Soccer – Soccer Fest Cycling – Night Cycling Bowling – Bowling Clinic conducted by own staff in preparation of our annual tournament Dancing Runners – Weekly jogs Nature Lovers – Nature walks HAvOC TheHealthActiVitiesOrganisingCommittee

In PacNet, we communicate constantly to all staff on the following matters: • Raising of awareness to lead a Healthy Lifestyle • Activities that HAvOC organises that is available for them to participate. This could be outdoor activities or talks that we engage external speakers to talk • Sharing of recipes with staff - recipes that are healthy to prepare for themselves and their family • Educating staff on the benefits of the fruits given out to them during Fruit-A-Week, giving them the nutritional value. We even give them tips on how some less common fruits are eaten. Communication to Staff

Our eNewsletter Other than emails, we will also have constant communications with our staff via our staff enewsletter An example where we bring to all staff the events that had happened, on a quarterly basis… a short report and the photos… this is for Tag Paintball event that took place in April 04.

Stretching Your Budget • Make use of Free Health Screenings conducted by NKF • Make use of services provided by Health Promotion Board: • Free health talks • Obtain Informative brochures and distribute to your staff • Health Grant to offset some of your cost • See if your medical service provider could assist you in conducting free or subsidised talks or any other activities • Get in touch with local Volunteer Welfare Organisations. They are quite willing to conduct talks for a small donation. Examples are The Breast Cancer Foundation, Action for Aids, etc • Use facilities around your office – the nearby park to organise regular runs cost you almost nothing • Help develop interest groups among staff and appoint a champion for each interest group to organise activities • Provide services that make life convenient for the staff, example, providing on-site massage service, laundry pick-up, etc
