  2. Classification -Illegal narcotic, central nervous system stimulant -Made from Coca leaves found in Western South America -Once used in medicines and Coca-Cola -Made illegal in US in 1914 www.about-peru-history.com

  3. Characteristics -White, crystalline powder often inhaled -Can be dissolved in water and injected -Sometimes combined with other drugs -Crack is a smokable form of cocaine -Nicknames include: blow, coke, flake, and snow www.cocaine.org

  4. Short Term Effects -Rapid heartbeat -Constricted blood vessels -Dilated pupils -Reduced appetite -Increased alertness -Euphoria -blocks re-uptake of dopamine in brain which is the chemical associated with the feeling of pleasure www.transalchemy.blogspot.com

  6. Case of Abuse Jeff Rice, reality television producer for shows including “The Amazing Race” and “Whale Wars” died in February of 2012. First reports suggested that he was poisoned by Ugandan thugs while he was on a trip for production purposes. When his body was found on the hotel balcony tests were done.

  7. Case of Abuse Continued Evidence was found from these tests, concluding that he was not poisoned. Opiates were found in his room and traces of cocaine was found in his blood and urine when tests were taken during the autopsy. From this evidence it has been decided that he has died from a cocaine overdose.
