Romeo is in exile on a street of Mantua He has had a dream in which Juliet has found him dead but came and breathed life into him by kissing him after which he became an emperor Balthasar enters and tells Romeo that Juliet is dead Romeo comes and sees an apothecary/druggist and buys poison—warned that it is illegal to have such a poison Scene One

Friar Laurence speaks with his friend Friar John Who was charged to tell Romeo of Friar Laurence’s plan to drug Juliet— UNFORTUNATELY, Romeo never receives the message that Juliet is not actually dead Friar Laurence fears the worst! He hurries to the tomb to save Juliet and bring her to his cell until Romeo returns Scene Two

Paris mourns the death of Juliet and throws flowers on her tomb He hides when he hears a whistle—Romeo enters Romeo forces open the tomb to see Juliet’s face one more time and to take his precious ring from Juliet’s finger He is acting a little crazily and Paris thinks that he is going to desecrate (do something bad) to Juliet’s tomb Scene Three

Balthasar hides as well because he’s worried about Romeo’s “looks” • Paris challenges Romeo to a duel and they fight • Paris is killed by Romeo and asks to be laid in the tomb—Romeo lays Paris in the tomb • Romeo lays in the tomb and drinks the poison • Friar Laurence enters and finds Romeo dead—Juliet wakes up and Friar Laurence finds that Romeo is dead • Friar Laurence leaves as the watch comes—Juliet will not leave • Juliet stabs herself with Romeo’s dagger • All of the families meet at the monument to witness the deaths—with the exception of Lady Montague—who dies of sadness after losing Romeo to exile • The Friar tells their story—the Prince finds that Friar Laurence and Balthasar are not to blame for what happened • The Prince says that “All are Punished” because of the feuding families interference in the star-crossed lovers tragic fate • The two families decide to end their feud because they recognize that they are ultimately the cause of all of the deaths • Mercutio, Tybalt, Paris, Romeo, Juliet, Lady Capulet Scene Three
