Bathroom Dangers • Water in your child’s bath should not exceed 100ºF • Run the cold water first and then add hot water • Toys in the bathtub establish the space as a play area • Give the child a washcloth instead of a toy • Do not flush a toilet or operate a dishwasher or washing machine when running a bath

  2. Bathroom Dangers At 130º, a serious burn can occur in 30 seconds. At 140º, only 5 seconds are required. The time may be reduced by 50 percent or more for children under age 5.

  3. Water Temperature in your Home • The maximum temperature of your water heater should not be higher than 125ºF; lower your setting to 120°–125ºF • Consider installing pressure balancing/thermostatically controlled valves; reduce water temp to 115ºF or less • Gas water heaters can be adjusted easily • Electric water heaters require disconnecting the electricity and removing the cover plates to adjust the thermostat
