Advertising: Pros and Cons • What is the value of advertising? • It introduces a wide range of consumer goods to you therefore gives you greater choice. • Stimulates a free market economy and creates employment opportunities. • Keeps you informed of the latest products available. • Criticisms of advertising: • It creates false needs. • Exploits our emotions by suggesting acquisition is the only way to happiness and success. • Stimulates materialism and greed. • Can manipulate social values and attitudes.
