  2. British General Burgoyne’s Plan to Take New York away from the Americans General Burgoyne planned a three pronged attack He would advance south from Canada General St. Leger would advance east from Fort Oswego General Howe would move north from Virginia

  3. General Burgoyne’s Plan Fails • General Howe never got the message to meet at Saratoga, so he advance to Philadelphia instead • General St. Leger never made it to Saratoga either. He was forced to retreat at Albany, New York. • General Burgoyne was the only one who made it to Saratoga but without support he was forced to surrender almost his entire army to American General Gates.

  4. American Victory at Saratoga • The American victory convince France that America had a chance at winning the war. • French money and supplies began making their way to America.
