PRE-AP AND AP COURSES OFFERED IN ALL CORE AREAS: ENGLISH, MATH, SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES *REQUIRED FOR ALL MAGNET STUDENTS……ALSO AVAILABLE IN SPANISH LANGUAGE, SPANISH LITERATURE, STATISTICS, COMPUTER SCIENCE, AND OTHERS • PRE-AP FRESHMAN SOPHOMORE • *AP JUNIOR SENIOR * MAY GRANT COLLEGE CREDIT IF STUDENT SCORES 3, 4, OR 5 ON AN AP (ADVANCED PLACEMENT) EXAM.

  6. FOR STUDENTS WHO ENTER GRADE 9 IN 2018-2019 AND THEREAFTER The District shall use a 100-point grading scale to calculate a student’s cumulative GPA by including all grades earned. The District shall record unweighted numerical grades on transcripts and report cards. Courses shall be weighted as follows for GPA calculation only. CATEGORY WEIGHT Tier 1: AP, eligible Dual Credit*, Pre-AP and other locally +10 identified weighted courses designated in the course catalog**. * Approved Dual Credit courses not completed at UISD will not receive additional weight. ** High School Course Catalog is available at uisd.net under Guidance Department link. Tier 2: Regular coursesNO WEIGHT Eligible courses for which a student takes an Advanced Placement (AP) exam and scores of 3,4, or 5 will receive additional weight on the corresponding course (if applicable), if the student earns a final average of 70 or better in the course. +5 GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA)

  8. TEXAS STATE INITIATIVE (TSI)TESTING TSI Testing determines a student’s academic college readiness in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. UISD students enrolling in dual credit courses must meet the guidelines from the college. UHS 9th Grade Campus will administer the TSI Reading and Writing tests on campus at no expense to eligible students. Students will be assigned a test date and computer lab either in the fall or spring semesters. Re-testing is not available on campus. TSI testing is available either at Texas A&M International University or at Laredo Community College. Contact their assessment centers for information on fees, dates, and required documents for testing.

UISD EARLY STARTPATHWAY STUDENTS IDENTIFIED AND APPROVED AT THE END OF 8TH GRADE: • are tentatively scheduled in Art 1301 during Spring 2020 (pending Writing TSI) A Laredo College instructor will teach the class here on campus. • will be scheduled to complete the TSI Writing test early in the fall semester to qualify for dual credit courses, including Art 1301. • must maintain a minimum GPA of 85 in core subjects to remain in the program. • need to submit required documents and applications by announced deadline. ALL OTHER STUDENTS MAY QUALIFY DURING THE NINTH GRADE BY: • earning a minimum GPA of 85 in core subjects during the 7th and 8th grades. • obtaining passing scores on the TSI Reading and Writing tests. Passing Standards: TSI Reading 351 TSI Writing 340 (Essay score 4) • Submitting required documents and applications by announced deadline. Automatic College Admission In accordance with Texas Education Code 51.803, a student is eligible for automatic admission to a public Texas college or university as an undergraduate student if the student meets all of the following criteria: • Earns a GPA in the top 10% of the student’s high school graduating class (top 6% for UT Austin) • Successfully completes the Distinguished Level of Achievement Program • Satisfies ACT or SAT assessments required by the individual institutions. • Completes application process and meets appropriate deadlines for each individual institution.
