  1. Georges Seurat!!! George Seurat is a very famous artist because he invented a new style of painting called pointillism. Pointillism is a style were you put tiny dots down on the paper to make up a bigger picture. Can you see the dots?

  2. Birth Seurat was born in Paris (The capital city of France) on the 2nd of December 1859. That was over 100 years ago, before cars were invented! His home was near Parc des Buttes-Chaumont. Some of his paintings were of the park.

  3. First Painting One of Georges’ first paintings was a picture of his mother. It was a picture of her sewing. Georges loved to draw people.

  4. The Army In 1879 (about 130 years ago!) Georges had to go and join the army. For a year he was sent to Brest, a small town by the sea side. He did lots of his drawings there most of them were of boats and beaches.

  5. The first exhibition! The first painting Georges sent to the Gallery was the Bathers but it was not allowed in. But Georges tried again and another painting was allowed in. It was showed at a special exhibition called The Salon. This was a place were the best artists in Paris Showed their work. How many hats can you see?

  6. Pointillism Pointillism was a main feature in Georges’ paintings it is a painting style with lots of dots. It was a very clever way of joining dots of colour but some people did not like that. The local artists actually liked this way of painting and started to copy Georges.

  7. The end Sadly Georges died on the 29th of March 1891 at the age of 31 Georgesfell ill and died suddenly of meningitis. Thenhis sondied a short time after of the same illness.
