  2. NeXTStep History • In 1985, Steve Jobs founded a new company called NeXT, Inc. • In 1990, NeXT unveiled faster workstations running at 25MHz on the Motorola 68040. • Spring of 1992 brought about the end of NeXT's optical disk.

NeXTStep History (con’t) • AvieTevanian helps created the NEXT operating system • NextStep Version 0.8 Shown in Oct 12 1988 • Full release Version 1.0 in Step 18 1989 • Last Version 3.3 was in 1995 • NextStep was later modified into OpenStep API • Apple OS X and iOS are direct descendants of NeXTSTEP through OPENSTEP
