  1. SCECHs CreditState Continuing Education Clock Hours

  2. New Administrative Rules • “State Board Continuing Education Units” (SB-CEUs) are now “clock hours” for renewal purposes. • SB-CEUs earned previously can still be used for renewal • 1 semester hour = 30 clock hours • The Secure Central Registry will now show your credit in Hours and SB-CEUs earned previously will be converted to hours • For conversion purposes, SB-CEUs x 10 equal the clock hours earned

  3. Major Changes • You may now renew your certification using only the required 30 hours of District Provided Professional Development (DPPD) • IF you attend a minimum of 30 hours of DPPD for 5 years you will be able to renew your certification with 150 clock hours • The maximum number of DPPD hours per year is 30 • However, if you do not earn a minimum of 30 per year for WHATEVER reason, you must get 180 clock hours for your renewal

  4. If you’d like to save $10 (for each SCECHs earned) you must keep track of your hours using the MDE form “District Provided Professional Development Record for Certificate Renewal” • AFTER the hours have been verified and signed by your Principal, the information may be added to the MOECS site under the “View/Update Professional Development Tab” • This form MUST be kept in your files, so documentation can be provided if your record is audited • Use a new form for each year

  5. MOECS

  6. MOECS • Each day needs to be a separate entry • For example you would enter each full day (12 hours), and then enter 12 Monday mornings (18 hours) to get to your 30 hours • There is a drop down for the PD category – choose the category that best describes the PD • The Activity Title may include: • Classroom Management • Mentoring • Instructional Technology • Instructional Strategies • Virtual Learning • Administrator Continuing Education • School Improvement Related

  7. Currently • Southgate’s DPPD is 2 full days (6 hours each) and 21 Monday mornings (1.5 hours each) for a grand total of 43.5 hours • Basically someone could 13.5 hours and still receive the 30 hours • PLEASE keep in mind that a maximum of 30 hours counts each year • For the future if less than 43.5 hours are scheduled for PD we still should plan on more than 30 hours in order to have some flexibility

  8. Other Information • Principals will begin signing DPPD forms in the spring of 2013 • For example principals will not be asked to verify your 30 hours of attendance for the 2011-12 school year • If you are in the middle of a renewal period hopefully you already have hours on the Central Secure Registry site • You will need 180 clock hours in order to renew your certification, a combination of SB-CEUs converted to clock hours, semester hours and/or DPPD • NO more surveys to complete

  9. Southgate Sponsored SCECHs • At this time there are no plans for Southgate to continue to be a sponsor for SB-CEUs/SCECHs • IF you need to earn hours Wayne RESA is a sponsor • Other ways to earn hours – 30 hours each • During a five-year renewal period you may not earn more than 90 hours in any one category • School Improvement Participation (min. 6 meetings) • Mentoring • Supervising a student teacher • Committee Meetings (min. 6 meetings)
