  2. The position of RG chair is an important one with serious responsibilities List of responsibilities: Managing RG study Managing RG budgets Managing presentation of RG at ABRF Ensuring a final publication for the study Orientation of New Chairs:

  3. Team Leader Organizes the groups efforts – does not do everything!!! Sets the agenda, conference calls – reminders Guides the discussion and ensures all points of view are heard. Maneuvers the group towards consensus and determines when consensus has been reached. Minutes from conference calls are strongly encouraged. Responsible for the organization, analysis and completion of the study, including publication. Encourage RG participation in ABRF meeting RG presentation, Tutorial, Round table, Scientific Session, Meeting Organizer Duties of RG Chair:

Be familiar with the RG Guidelines, Handbook and ABRF Bylaws http://www.abrf.org/index.cfm/page/bylaws/bylawhome.htm Manage personnel resources Turnover – 3 year term of service – will need to reapply for a second term– New Rule Performance Ad Hoc – not recommended Co-Chairs – up to RG – but not recommended Duties of RG Chair

Partnership between RGs – EB – Education Committee – meeting organizers Plan educational workshops (courses) in new cutting edge technologies -- NEW Suggestions must be forwarded to meeting organizers by April of each year. Chance for retooling or just advancing knowledge Satellite Meetings/Educational Workshops

Funding: $1,000 for conference calls $750 for project Additional funds for project if justified by request (must be approved by EB Up to 3 complimentary registrations for ABRF meeting for speakers for RG research presentation $1,500 at chair’s discretion to help cover costs for ABRF meeting for speaker/ poster for RG research presentation Additional travel funds to represent RG group at other conferences – but must be justified to EB Outstanding RG or committee members of the year – (2 travel awards overall) -- $600 (US) -- $1,000 (Foreign) – Chair or liaison recommendation -- evaluated by EB -- NEW Resources Available:

  10. Presentations at the meeting  FASEB RG presentations – reimbursement for speakers Complimentary registrations Interactions with the EB  ABRF Office RG chair – extra night at the hotel for meeting with the EB Dinner with EB the night before conference starts Reimbursements

  11. All expenses incurred in the year should be reported to ABRF by the end of the year –Dec 31 Fiscal Duties

  12. Identifying potential RG candidates a) Asking the EB, other Chairs and ABRF members for advice. b) Posting a note on the ABRF list server. c) Placing a note in JBT. d) Asking the ABRF Business Office to send an email. e) Adding a note on the ABRF web page. f) ABRF meeting!

Steps for inviting someone to join your RG Provide them with a copy of the RG Mission Statement and Guidelines so they have a good understanding of the function of your RG. b) Tell them that they must be approved by the EB before joining. c) Ask them for an electronic copy of their CV or other summary of experience and a statement of why they want to join your RG. Tell them this info will be forwarded to the EB. d) Provide them with a Conflict of Interest form (available on web). e) Once approved, add them to your RG web page. f) Active members – contribute to project (term adhoc member is not well defined – encourage RGs not to use this category)

Conflict of Interest (COI) a) All RG members must submit a COI form (available on the ABRF web site). b) Members and associates of the ABRF with COI may, in some cases, serve on RG if those conflicts are fully disclosed to the President. c) No member should endorse any product, instrument, or commercial concern that can be construed to be involved in the RG’s area of research generally or which plays some part in the RG’s study. Avoid the appearance of COI

ABRF welcomes the participation of vendors and commercial service labs – following rules: ABRF research study is not a competition and should not be referred to as such Representations/publications should not be deceptive – not fair to compare new instrument with one that is 5 yrs old Comparisons to ABRF data should clearly state the number of samples analyzed and previous information known about sample. Comparisons should clearly state that many factors affect results and that results obtained by company might not be achievable by core labs. Disclaimer that ABRF did not participate in vendor’s study and that it does not endorse vendor in any way Vendors are encouraged to distribute potential publication and other materials to EB prior to publication.   16. Input for ABRF Annual conference • All input from RGs into the annual ABRF conference is at the discretion of the meeting organizers • Organization of RG project report • Must request slot from meeting organizers by June 1 • Past meetings: • Input into Scientific Platform Sessions • -- Must have formal description of session • -- Must have suggested speakers and their qualifications • Organization of round table for RG specialty

  17. Prepare study proposal for review by EB May include supplementary budget Devise timetable for completion Provide for fair division of labor Data collection Data analysis Presentation/publication* Web poster MS review by EB liaison Duties Relating to RG Studies

March/April New chair assumes duties Finalize recruitment of members Send in COI forms for all RG members Discuss & select study/survey topic Organize manuscript of completed study Suggestions for next year Educational Course (April 15) May Prepare and refine study proposal Plan for RG participation in ABRF 2008 annual meeting. Must contact EB liaison and meeting organizers June Proposal for project to EB for approval (June 2) EB feedback within 2 weeks RG Calendar -- 2008

  19. July Submit Q3 JBT report (Jul. 1) Select/prepare study materials and survey questions Create survey infrastructure Request presentation time at meeting August Test and validate sample materials Test survey infrastructure September Launch study Calendar Continued
