Introduction: Mrs. Douma • Have taught for 8 years – Lakenheath High School • Bachelor’s Degree Microbiology, Montana State University • Master’s Degree in Education University of Phoenix • Home State is Montana • 20 year career in Clinical Laboratory Science • Married , Mr Douma teaches sixth grade at the Middle School • One son, Zeke, 1nst Lt U.S. Army, 10thMtn Division deployed to Afghanistan in July 2013

  3. Things I enjoy…. • Traveling, hiking, reading, scuba, animals, quilting, flowers, cooking, and….. SCIENCE!

  4. Materials Please bring the following to every class: • Three Ring Binder –for Biology only • Composition Notebook/Journal • Pencils • Pens (blue or black) • Eraser • Planner • An inquiring mind Everything else belongs in your backpack. Backpacks are to be placed near the door on the east side of the classroom.

  5. Expectations • Students are required to come prepared for class. • Address the morning agenda immediately when you sit down. DON’T WAIT FOR THE BELL! • You must be in your seat when the bell rings or you will be counted as tardy. • Remain in your seat until the bell rings. • Do not pack up until you are directed by Mrs. Douma • I will dismiss you.

  6. Assessments/Grading • Assignments will not always receive a point grade in Gradespeed. • You will be graded on your ability to demonstrate understanding. • Laboratory Write up • Design of experiment to solve a problem or answer a question • Data Analysis and Conclusion or interpretation of outcome • Un-announced Quizzes • Vocabulary or Unit Tests • Journal Reflection • Project or Presentation

  7. Seating Plan Procedure • Your seat will be assigned. • If you require a seat change, please talk with me.

  8. Classroom Procedures • Use the garbage can and recycling bins. • Washroom is off limits during class time. Ask permission. • Cell phones, iPods, MP3 players, etc. are not allowed. Leave them in your backpack along with your headphones. • Be on time and prepared with materials. • Listen to the announcements. • No eating or drinking except water. • Remember you are in a science lab Safety is a primary issue

  9. My Expectations • Be on time and ready for class. • Work should be neat, tidy and readable. • The purpose of assignments is to help you learn the material. Not doing your assignment will most likely guarantee failure on your assessments. • If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. • If you need extra help please ask. Your grade is your responsibility, not mine. • Courtesy and respect are to be extended to all.

  10. Attendance/Make-up You are expected to be familiar with the attendance policy in the student handbook • Late work may be turned in up to one week after the due date. • Missing work is recorded as a zero • Late work is worth 50% • Incomplete assignments will not be graded • Excused absences have one day for every missed day to complete work, unless other arrangements are made. • If you miss a class it is your responsibility to find out what you have missed…NOT at the beginning of next class. • If you need extra help please ask for a seminar pass. Your grade is your responsibility!

  11. Fire Drill Procedure • Leave belongings behind. • Exit quickly and quietly. • Stay together as a class. • Meet at the designated muster point for attendance. • Re-enter the school when directed by your teacher.
