  9. Since 1988 Canadians have been able to petition the Canadian Heraldic Authority in Ottawa for a grant of arms.

  10. The Process

  11. A petition is sent to the Chief Herald. • If approved, a warrant for the grant is signed by the Herald Chancellor or the Deputy Herald Chancellor.

  12. A herald works with the petitioner to develop a design. • A heraldic artist is assigned to complete preliminary artwork for approval.

  13. Final artwork is completed. • Letters Patent are issued. • The grant is recorded in the Public Register of Arms, Flags, and Badges of Canada and a notice is printed in Canada Gazette.

  14. The Cost

  15. All costs to be borne by petitioner. • Minimum cost (for shield, crest, helmet, mantling and motto) will not be less than $1,900 but will be higher if additional designs for children are required or if a badge and flag are included.
