  1. Claire Metheny English II, 1st period Due 10/23/13 Family Relationships in Entertainment

  2. Introduction • Family Relationships are the basis for a lot of modern day stories as well as ancient ones. In this case, I found it in Oedipus Rex, Full House, and

  3. Text-To-Text Family relationships are shown in Oedipus Rex by who he marries. Oedipus marries his mother and has children with her, not even realizing that she is his mother. He creates a new relationship with her through this. This makes the relationship between Oedipus, his parents, and his kids very awkward and weird.

  4. Text-To-Text Full House looks at Family Relationships in a whole different way. Full House is the story of three sisters being raised by their friends and two of his old friends. It goes through triumphs and heartbreak, as well as stereotypical family situations that people may find themselves in. It talks of love, death and being stranded on a deserted island. Full House is like the “perfect family” that everyone wants to be a part of. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-5HC44GRbk

  5. Text-To-Text • In “From Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes, he talks about his mother giving him a wise word of advice. She tells him that life is like a staircase. There may be splinters in the wood and darkness, but no matter what, he needs to keep moving to reach his final destination. One of the many things involved in a families relationship is the passing on of knowledge and wisdom from one generation to the next. • http://www.poetrysoup.com/famous/poem/3805/mother_to_son

  6. Text-To-Self • Family relationships are a huge part of my life. I spent more time with my mom’s family than I have my dad’s because my parents are divorced. This means that I never really see my dad or his family, and I instead spend a lot of time hanging out with my mom’s side of the family. I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way, because I love my mom’s family.

  7. Conclusion • In conclusion, family relationships are a major part of everyday life, whether in a good way or a bad way. In the case of Oedipus Rex, his family relationships had a little mishap, but he still had a family. In Full House, the family may not be perfect, but everyone is happy and thankful for what they have. Family relationships are not perfect, and should not be, because it is the quirkiness and oddness of a family that makes life fun.
