  2. Overdrive Gearset Overdrive gearsets combine two simple planetary gearsets so that the ring gear of each gearset is connected to the carrier of the second set. The transmission described as Version 1 is the General Motors 4L60E; its first designation was THM 700. Tom Birch, 8/06

  6. Geartrain Note From the previous slide, note that the Input Carrier and Output Ring Gear are connected to each other and are connected to the output shaft. The Input Ring Gear and Reaction Carrier are also connected to each other. General Motors has given the name ‘Input Planetary’ to the front gearset and ‘Reaction Planetary’ to the rear geaset.
