Project Background Group member Nathan is the business expert Interned at Syracuse Athletics Dept during May-August 2012 Worked in Communications Dept handling projects, day to day operations, and data input and maintenance Gained knowledge of the way the department was run and how they conducted business
  3. Business Problem Existing system uses separate files in Microsoft Excel, InDesign, and other programs in order to track Student athlete academic performance Athletic performance Funds coming into and out of the program Frequent problem encountered is failure for student athletes to comply with NCAA academic requirements This costs the University time and money to solve and take care of
  4. Opportunity It is hoped with a database system and better technology to suit the University’s needs they could- Identify issues Resolve Issues Save time and money
  5. Business Value Our proposed database system will Reduce the amount of time that employees and media take to process data on academic, athletic, and financial performance into info All info will be located in one place, making it easier to identify trends Improve response times in fixing problems with academic incompliance with University requirements Help improve sluggish athletic and/or financial performance by athletics dept
  6. Business Value Con’t By excelling in academics and athletics the University will be able to: Create a more positive image Bring in more revenue

Database Design Overview We have a table for Revenue, Sporting Events, Student, and Team One student can have one team, one team can have many students One team can have many sporting events, one sporting event can have one team One sporting event can have many revenues, one revenue can have one sporting event
  9. User Interface Design Within the student table we listed each student athlete by personal information and what sport team they’re on The team table lists what sports the University has that are in the database The sporting events table lists each sporting event that the teams participated in, the expenses involved, the attendance, and other attributes The revenue table lists all of the direct and indirect sources for each sporting event
