  4. King Middle School - The Basics • 6th-8th Grade • Approximately 900 Students • Approximately 100 total staff • Renovated Facility on over 10 acre campus • Block Schedule so 7th and 8th grades see teachers 3x/week, 6th graders are “cored” King Parent Night

Cohort Model of Support • Each incoming 6th grade is assigned a vice principal, counselor, and two teacher specialists that stay with the class through 8th grade. • Learning Center for all students including students with IEP’s (Special Ed) • Academic Support Classes • Counseling King Parent Night

  6. 6th Grade • Humanities Core • Math/Science Core • PE “Wheel” includes Dance, Cooperative Games, Ball Sports, and Yoga • “Wheel” includes Drama, Social Smarts, Strategy Games, “What’s on your plate?” • Garden (17)/Kitchen (10) • Grade Level Field Trips • Separate Dining Commons and Yard Time King Parent Night

  7. 6th Grade King Parent Night The students stay together as a class. They have one teacher for math/science core and a different teacher for humanities core. They move as a class from one teacher to the other teacher. There is a “flip class” that is moving together in the opposite order between the two teachers.

  8. Sample 6th Grade Schedule • 7:45-8:30 Music (optional) • 8:45-10:20 Math/Science (includes UB) • 10:26-10:56 Reading/Math Support/Other • 10:56-11:26 Yard Time • 11:26-11:46 Dining Commons • 11:51-1:17 English/History (Humanities) • 1:23-2:03 Drama • 2:08-2:48 PE-Soccer King Parent Night

  9. Lunch Time King Parent Night Students play first and eat afterwards in 6th grade (reverse order for 7th and 8th) Students can go to the library, game room, mini-park, or playground/field Library-computers, art Game room-ping-pong, pool, foosball, air hockey Supervision in all places

  10. Lunch Time King Parent Night Sit at tables of 10-12 in Dining Commons Change seats approximately every 6 weeks Bring lunch or buy lunch or get free/reduced lunch Pay online or in person 2 entrees, soup and a salad bar ($3.50/$5.00)

  13. Extended Day Music and Arts Before School • 6th grade Band • 6th grade Orchestra • 7th/8th grade Symphonic Band • 7th/8th grade Orchestra • 6th-8th grade Chorus After School • 6th-8th grade Jazz Band • 6th-8th grade Modern Music • Dance/Production • Drama/Production King Parent Night

King Visionaries After School • Library Homework Tutorial • Enrichment Classes (chess, sewing, music production, YEAH, cooking, creative writing, and much more) • Sports (basketball, track, cross country, volleyball, soccer, football, baseball, softball, ping pong, and more) • Social Hall/Game Room (ping pong, pool, foosball) • Snack • Available daily until 6pm • Low cost on a sliding scale basis.
