  2. Time of civalization • the ancestors of the Mayans crossed the Bering Strait at least 20,000 years ago. • The Mayans originated in the Yucatan around 2600 B.C., they rose to power around A.D. 250 • The first true civalization lasted from 1500 BC to about 300 AD.

  3. Uses • The art of the Maya is a reflection of their lifestyle and culture. • Their art depics their gods, astrology, and timelines. • They use their art to make callenders and timelines.

  5. Structures • The Mayan built huge structures to honor their gods and have the same significance as a church today. • The Mayans however were more brutal to the people attending and also did human sacrifices to the gods by decapitation or cutting out the hearts of the person being sacrificed

  7. Scuptures • The Mayan also made scuptures of their gods • They also made scuptues to honor their kings like many civalizations.

Structures • The Mayans built many of their structures so they were aligned with a certin planet or star. • The Mayans were very advanced in astrology. • They charted the movement of Venus for over 200 years and were able to predict when we would be able to see Venus cross the sun in 2012. After 2012 the next transite of Venus will be Dec 11 ,2117.

  11. Impotance of Venus Venus was a very impotant part of Mayan life. They based many of their art and placement of buildings in acordance to Venus. They built many buildings, that are art in themselves, in specific locations to veiw its movement.

  12. The fall of the Mayans • The Mayan civalization began to fall around 900 A.D. • No one knows exactly how or why they disapeared. • Many theroies like disease or massize migration.

Lasting legacies • Mayans left us their art as clues to what happened to them. • More and more pyramids are being found all over North and South America. • Evidence has also been found as high north as Ohio. • The Mayans also inhabited some of the surrounding islands, showing that they conquered the sea.
