  2. Ancient Egypt • The Ancient Egyptians lived in a small area of land near the Nile river because the rest of the region was dessert. The Egyptians used the Nile river to water their plants and to take showers. Wealthier Egyptians had servants to take care of their children and house chores. Pharaohs and Kings had several wives.

  3. Egyptian Hieroglyphics • Hieroglyphic writing is like a picture puzzle. Hieroglyphics are written in rows or columns and can be read from left to right or right to left. Hieroglyphics are divided into equal parts. Alphabetic, syllabic, word-signs, and determinative.

  4. King Tutankhamen • King Tutankhamen in his early life was the pharaoh of the eighteenth dynasty of Egypt. He ruled from 1341-1323 B.C during the period known as the New Kingdom. His original name was Tutankhaten this meant “Living Image of Aten”. Tutankhamen is in modern times the most famous of the pharaohs and the only one to have a nickname in popular culture. His nickname is “King Tut”.

  5. Rosetta Stone • The Rosetta Stone is a stone with writing on it in two languages (Egyptian and Greek), using three scripts Hieroglyphics, demotic, and Greek. The first hieroglyphic was used to write very important religious documents. The second script was demotic which was the most common script. The third script was Greek which was the language of the rulers in Egypt.

  6. Mummification • The earliest ancient Egyptians buried their dead in mall pits in the desert. The heat and the dryness of the sand dehydrated the bodies quickly, creating lifelike and natural mummies. Later, The ancient Egyptians began burying their dead in coffins to protect them from wild animals in the desert. The ancient Egyptians took out their organs and placed them in jars and then wrapped the bodies in linen. This process is called mummification.

  7. Sphinx • The sphinx appeared to have started in Egypt in the form of a sun god. The sphinx of Giza is a symbol that has represented the essence of Egypt for thousands of years. • The sphinx of Giza will give you a hint of what you’ll see if you visit Egypt.
