Story Books; Dictionaries; and Art materials STORYBOOK READING AREA Where teacher and students gather for story-time. • Teacher is equipped with sharpen pencils to avoid student disrupting the class and the noise of sharpener. • There is plenty of aisle space . safety is not an issue (special needs children, restrooms). • teacher has easy access to students. • students can focus on teacher’s instructions and it is easy to move their chairs around. • Orange simulates 4 chairs per 4 students at each table. Coat storage Student book bag storage Note: This arrangement accommodates 12 to 15 students, with at least 4 students per tables. Students have individual workspace and collaborative space to accommodates corporative grouping or teamwork and collaborative practices. Teacher has awareness of all students, or “wit-it-ness” to monitor student’s behaviors at all times. This arrangement promotes learning and class participation, shared ideas and creativity. It is especially useful for non-English speaking students to have an opportunity to know their fellow classmates. Finally, the teacher has full view of the entrance and existing of the classroom to prevent interruptions.
