Project PossibleSkills That Propel (STP) Mission - Our mission is to give women the tools and techniques required to self-assess the skills and interests already existing within them that can be developed to yield personal income, while providing the community around them with a viable product or service. Project Purpose: • To provide opportunities that assist women in discovering their skills and interests. • To motivate women to use their passions to create projects that fulfill their purpose. • To identify skills that can increase the earning potential of women and lead them to financial stability and independence. Target Population: • Adult women seeking self-actualization.

Patricia Smith - Chairperson • Sierra House • Essex County Churches • Partnerships with institutions that promote ongoing opportunities for life learners. (Essex County College, Rutgers Business Institute, NJ Dept., of Labor, Essex County Welfare, Workforce Investment Board (WIB) , Long-term Drug Treatment, Center Re-entry Initiatives, etc.) • STP Business Directory - Rev. Valarie Hughes, Chairperson • Web Design and Services • Low Cost Advertising for Small Business • Enrollment for the directory will go through the Skills That Propel Liaisons for each Area • Low Cost Advertising for Small Business among the NJ Churches and surrounding communities ($25 Annual Registration Fee) • Advertising of Black owned businesses

Darlene Reynolds • Will utilize best practices through evidenced-based models that teach and give support • Offer participants time to explore their strengths, talents, creativity, and character formation • Develop a business plan for their proposed business idea • Inform participants of methods to securing capital to launch their business models through our partnerships/collaborative relationships • Receive ongoing administrative support , networking opportunities, and mentoring • Marketing/Publicity – Sis. Beverly Henderson-Hartsfield, Chairperson • Develop materials for the Skills That Propel “Small Business Institute” Initiative • Develop materials for participants for distribution to potential consumers/clients, business partners, etc. • Website development for STP, participants, and others

  6. Progress Report This has never been done before. The Skills to Propel (STP) team has worked to do the organizational work necessary to create an initiative that will educate, develop, and support women who want to create business opportunities that generate sustainable income and create jobs with a living wage. We are working to bring together the plans that will allow us to launch the first phase of STP in September 2014 in the Essex County area. The long range goal is to launch STP statewide through the Areas of the NJ Conference Women's Missionary Society. Through our many discussions, It is apparent that we will need to form a non-profit corporation to further our work. There are great funding opportunities for African American women that can assist STP with building a network of minority owned businesses. By working together, we can substantially increase ongoing earning potential for individuals and families. The Business Directory will also be a part of the September 2014 Launch. The committee has already structured the preliminary methods for enrollment. We are asking for an annual $25 registration fee to list with us. This to help with the monthly fees needed to maintain the website. All registrations will be coordinated through the Area Liaisons. Our STP Launch date is September 2014.The Sierra House has agreed to partner with STP as a part of Phase One. Carolyn Greene is the Development Officer for Sierra house. She, and the members of Sierra House, are lending their talent to make sure we are optimizing all opportunities for success. You will need to stay tuned for the enrollment dates, the location of the training, and contact information. Sierra House will be our partner for the STP Launch

  7. What can you to do to help Skills That Propel (STP)? Please mark your calendars and attend to the STP Call on the2nd Tuesday of each month at 7pm. If you have a experience with developing non-profits and can work with the Ad-hoc Committee, please give Rev. Valarie Hughes your contact information today. 4) We are asking all Area Chairpersons recruit and work with STP Liaisons to promote the project and to share updates with all the local presidents of each society at your regular meetings. Please give an email listing to your STP Liaison. The list can be added to the STP email communications as well. 5) Please pray for STP in your personal devotion time.
