Graduation Requirements • For Recommended/Distinguished Program: • English Language Arts 4.0 • Mathematics 4.0 • Science 4.0 • Social Studies 4.0 • PE 1.0 • Foreign Language 2.0 or 3.0 (if Distinguished) • Fine Arts 1.0 • Speech .5 • Electives 5.5 or 4.5 (if Distinguished) • Total: 26.0 credits

  6. In order to graduate and ‘walk the stage’ in May, students must: • +earn at least 26.0 credits • +earn credit for each of the specific courses designated by the Texas Education Agency • +pass all 4 parts of the exit level TAKS

Abilene Education Foundation • ·Founded to help the local community positively impact public education in Abilene through charitable gifts and volunteer activities. • ·Dedicated to supporting academic excellence by generating private funds that will enable AISD to meet students’ needs that fall outside of school district budgets.

AEF C.O.O.L Program • ·Help students locate and apply for scholarships and financial aid. • ·Assist students to complete the FAFSA form and the Texas Common Application. • ·Assist students with essays for college admission and work with English teachers on essay topics. • ·Meet with parents to share information about colleges and the college admissions process. • ·Establish and maintain relationships with admissions and financial aid departments of colleges. • ·Host campus tours of colleges of interest. • ·Encourage and support students through the college experience. • ·Offer interactive workshops and classroom presentations to middle school students. • ·Leadership retreat for 8th graders.

  9. SAT/ACT • ACT has a science section, while the SAT does not. • ACT questions tend to be more straightforward. • SAT stronger emphasis on vocabulary. • ACT Writing test is optional on test day, but required by many schools. • SAT is broken into more sections.

  10. SAT/ACT Dates • SAT: $51.00 (fee waivers available) • November 2nd • December 7th • ACT: $52.50 (fee waivers available) • October 26th • December 14th

How Can I Afford College? • Financial Aid: • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (known as the FAFSA) is a form that can be prepared annually by current and prospective college students (undergraduate and graduate) in the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid (including the Pell Grant, Federal student loans and Federal Work-Study)
