  2. Mission Statement The Bendrigg Trust runs high quality courses for disabled and disadvantaged people. We aim to promote integration, encourage independence and build self- confidence through the use of residential experience and the safe provision of adventurous activities delivered by dedicated, qualified staff.

  3. Aims and Objectives • Improve knowledge of Disabilities • To have an opportunity to work with disabled children in a fun environment • To gain experience working with children with complex needs.

  4. My Role at Bendrigg Lodge • Taking part in all activities • Demonstrating activities such as pretending to fall off the climbing wall to reassure the children they will not fall to the ground!! • Making sure everyone was safe at all times • Most importantly, making sure everyone was happy and they had everything they needed whilst staying at Bendrigg

The Activities • Activities Hall • Abseiling • Adventure Course • Archery • Camping • Canoeing • Caving • Climbing • Fire Escape Abseil • Group initiative projects • Hill, Mountain or Gorge walking • Lounge Area • Orienteering and treasure hunts • Ropes Course • Sailing and Kayaking • Sensory Room • Social Events • Tube Slide • Under floor Caving • Visits to The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales • Zip Wire

  8. What I learnt at Bendrigg: No clinical skills BUT A tremendous amount about Disabilities/Conditions

  9. Some of the Disabilities/Conditions I came across: • Asperger’s Syndrome • Autism • Behaviour Issues • Cerebral Palsy • Cri-Du- Chat Syndrome (Pussy Cat Syndrome) • Down Syndrome • Fragile X Syndrome • Global Development Delay • Learning Disabilities • Moya- Moya Epilepsy • Williams Syndrome
