  1. Welcome to UCAS!!! Let’s Design Your Schedule

  2. CONCURRENT Enrollment and sophomore by exception • In order to attend UVU you must have these two forms. We are going to have them signed and taken care of before anything else. Please fill out the Concurrent Enrollment form and the Sophomore by Exception form now.

  3. Name and Career INterest • The first thing you should do is fill out your name and a potential career interest at the top of the form so we know who completed the form. • Please know that course choices are very limited at UCAS and we do not have a lot of room for flexibility in planning your schedule to meet all graduation requirements for high school, complete the associate degree, and maintain the STEM focus of UCAS.

  4. 9th Grade Checklist By the end of 9th grade will you have completed at least: • 1 Credit of English 9? • 1 Credit of Secondary Math 1? • 1 Credit of Science (Earth Science or Biology)? • 1 Credit (0.5 each) of Geography and World Civ? • 0.5 Credits of PE Skills? • 0.5 Credits of Computer Tech? • 0.5 Credits of Fine Arts (Art, Choir, Band, etc)? Do you have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher? NOTE: If your answer is “NO” to any of the above please make sure to meet with a counselor before leaving today.

  5. Required courses meet high school and/or associate degree requirements The classes that are already typed in are required for that grade You will write in the classes from the boxes on the right that you plan to take in 10th grade If you did not take Computer Tech in 9th grade you must sign up for Exploring CS in 10th grade

  6. Optional Courses Let’s start with the optional courses so you know a little about what they are: • Spanish 1020 CE: This is the equivalent of a high school Spanish 3 or 4. If you have not had any previous Spanish this course is not for you. If you have had Spanish 1 with an A or B and preferably Spanish 2 and want to continue this course is for you. • Exploring CS: If you did not take Computer Tech in 9th grade you must take this class in 10th grade. • Release Time: This is for student wishing to schedule a release time from school to plan for religious studies in their schedule. Sophomores at UCAS are not permitted to schedule early morning (8:00 am) release time.

  7. Required Courses A minimum of 1 course from each box is required

  8. Social Studies • All students must take American Government AND American History • Mr. Barksdale’s classes require more time than the average class and also tend to be some of the student’s favorites. Choose whether to take one in 10th grade, one in 11th grade or both in the same grade. You will not be allowed to take both in the same semester. • All Juniors will take Banking and Finance. This is required for High School Graduation.

  9. Art (Fine Arts) • You need 1.5 credits of fine arts for high school graduation and 3 credits of Art credit toward the associate degree. • All students must take either Art 1010 CE - Intro to Art OR Drawing CE – Art 1110 in 10th or 11th grade. • NOTE: If you did not take any high school fine art credit in 9th grade you will need an additional 0.5 credits of fine arts. We will explain how you can do this as we go along.

  10. Humanities or Communications • All students need to take Humanities 1010 CE OR Communications 1020 CE toward an Associate Degree Requirement. Choose one: • Humanities can count as high school fine arts if needed. • Communications can count in place of high school English 12 Language requirement (not recommended).

  11. Health • All students need to take 0.5 credits of Health for high school graduation in 10th or 11th grade.

  12. PE • All students need 1.5 credits of PE for high school graduation PES 1097 counts for 0.5 towards H.S. and meets the A.S. Degree requirement: • All students should have taken PE Skills in 9th grade for 0.5 credit of PE (see counselor after if not) • Most students will need to take UCAS PE in 10th or 11th grade. Only student who took PE skills and a 2nd PE class in 9th grade do not need this class. • All students will take UVU PES 1097 (0.5 high school credit AND 2 college credits of Fitness for Life) their junior year or 1st semester senior year.

  13. CTE Credit • All students need 1 credit of CTE credit for high school graduation. • In 9th grade classes toward CTE include woods, metals, computer classes, stage crew, foods, clothing, teen living, etc. • If you did not take 2 semester classes or 1 full year of CTE (not counting computer tech) in 9th grade, then you will need one of the following: • Mechatronics 1010 CE • Web Design CE – Info 2450 • Commercial Art 1120 CE (Can count as CTE or Fine Art)

  14. Senior Year • Priorities • 1. Finish ALL High School graduation requirements. • 2. Finish ALL UVU A.S. general education degree requirements. • 3. Take 1 or 2 electives in a STEM field (if room). Full time UVU students typically take 12-15 credits each semester. MOST UCAS students have time to take 1 or 2 electives their senior year.
