2. Gianna Jessen was aborted in 1977. But she survived the abortion. What follows is a brief story of the drama of her life.

3. Gianna Jessen became an activist in the fight for the defense of life. In 1996 she presented her testimony before the Constitutional Subcommittee of the House Judiciary, and before the British House of Commons in 2006. Her biography was written by Jessica Shaver in 1999: “Gianna: Aborted ... and Lived to Tell About It.”

4. My biological mother was 17-years-old, and 7 ½ months pregnant when she decided to have a saline abortion in a clinic in Los Angeles. A solution with salt was injected into her womb and I drank it. I was burning both inside and outside. I should have been expelled dead in 24 hours. Instead, I was born alive. If the abortionist had been there, I would have been strangled!

5. The nurse called an ambulance, and I was transported to a hospital. I was placed in an incubator and was not expected to live, but I survived!

6. But I bear the consequences of her supposed “right to choose” every day of my life. Due to having been without oxygen for 18 hours, being burned alive in the womb of my mother, I bear the consequences, physical atrophy and celebral palsy. The only person concerned about me was the nurse. My mother was convinced that she had the “right to choose,” and she wanted to believe that the consequences of the exercise of her “right” would only affect herself.

7. Gianna, 1999 I could not move by myself. The doctors said that I would live in a vegetative state the rest of my life. But by age three and a half, I managed to begin to walk with leg braces. I still limp and at times I even fall. But I managed to participate in a marathon. And in 2006 I went to London to take part in sports games for the handicapped.

8. When I was 17, my adoptive mother met with my biological mother, who told her that I pardoned her because I am Christian. I don’t know what they said at that meeting. I only know that my biological mother did not ask pardon for what she did. She even had another abortion after mine.. My adoptive mother loves me so much that I do not feel the need to meet personally with my biological mother.

9. I began to speak against abortion when I was age 14. I think that it is important to show what happened to me. I do not believe that murder is a right of the mother. I am completely against abortion, even in the case of the mother being raped, because the child should not pay for that crime. I know persons who were born in such circumstances; they are grateful to be alive.

10. Every day I thank God for having preserved my life. I am very grateful for my life.
