    4. Windows Intune plays a key role in bringing the advantages of the cloud to our customers and partners. Let’s look at the ways that the cloud can change desktop management. Your customers depend on you to keep their PCs up and running—whether they are in the office or on the road—so that they can be most productive. But this can be challenging given the complexities surrounding an organization’s PC infrastructure: PCs are running multiple configurations, versions, and licenses With workers in many locations – in the corporate office, branch office, coffee shops, home office – ensuring their PC’s are up to date and secure can be a challenge when PCs aren’t physically in the office or connected to the corporate network. With PC’s spread across these locations – some with corporate network access and some with just an Internet connection - IT professionals noted that a lack of insight to all their PCs impaired their ability to efficiently identify and resolve issues. For instance, there were times when IT couldn’t confirm that security patches and updates had been validated and deployed on remote PCs. Lastly, on-premises desktop management solutions that could address some of these needs required high upfront infrastructure investments – in both technology costs and deployment time. Microsoft has designed Windows Intune™, the latest addition to the Microsoft® Online Services family, to help you meet these challenges and help your customers be more productive. With Windows Intune, you can: Help businesses manage and protect PCs virtually anywhere with the cloud service component Give your users the best Windows experience with the Windows 7 upgrade rights Deliver big tech results to your customers with a small tech investment for them. In order to demonstrate how Windows Intune can deliver this value, I’d like to talk a little bit about the underlying technology in Windows Intune. 5. Why Manage through the Cloud? What you don’t need to do…

    6. Now you’ve seen the value both management solutions can offer but it’s important to understand where the gaps are. At the base, both Windows Intune v1 and our on-premises solution set include upgrade rights to Windows 7 Enterprise and future versions of Windows. Both solutions also deliver essential client management and protection which includes: Microsoft Update Management Malware Protection Hardware, Software, and license inventory Remote Assistance Alerts and Monitoring But to be clear, this is only a subset of the rich functionality that’s included in our on-premises management solution. For businesses that need full group policy support, software deployment, or operating system distribution, this is available through our on-premises solutions today. These benefits are not built into the feature set of Windows Intune v1. However, it’s important to note that Windows Intune leverages the management expertise that went into building our on-premises products and as I mentioned, our long-term strategy is to reach equivalency with our on-premises management solutions today. 7. Scaling to the Enterprise Over Time Delivering PC Management and Security today and in the future Windows Intune is Microsoft’s cloud solution for PC management and security—and our vision is to scale to meet the needs of businesses of all sizes over time. The underlying platform is built for enterprise scale. The feature set of this first release will bring the most value to businesses who need the essentials of PC management and protection – this includes updates, patching, and inventory - that may not have an existing management solution or are inefficiently using a fragmented solution today. For businesses with a highly distributed workforce, Windows Intune can deliver remote management and protection to keep both IT and end-users productive from virtually anywhere. As is typical of online services, Windows Intune will be on a more frequent release cycle than our on-premises solutions today and our roadmap is equivalency with management solutions used by enterprise customers today. Windows Intune will advance to be our premiere offering to deliver enterprise-class Windows management & security from the cloud.Windows Intune is Microsoft’s cloud solution for PC management and security—and our vision is to scale to meet the needs of businesses of all sizes over time.
