  8. It is the goal of the World Language Department to develop students who can communicate with ease in the target language and achieve a high level of skill according to the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. Because a long-term, well-articulated world language curriculum is necessary in order for students to develop the skill level needed to communicate at this high level, it is the expectation of the World Language Department that students remain in the world language they have begun in the Middle School. Students requesting a change in language choice should do so in writing to Ms. Burgbacher, Chair of the Upper School World Language Department, and must detail the special circumstances which would warrant a change in language choice. If a rising 9 would like to request a change in World Language, please note this on your lime green form, and attach a letter from the student explaining the extenuating circumstances that led you to make this request. Cary Academy - 1500 N Harrison Ave - Cary, North Carolina

  9. An opportunity to discover and develop interests in other areas. C block Cary Academy - 1500 N Harrison Ave - Cary, North Carolina

  10. C block class meeting • Not all C block classes meet all 5 days of the week, for all 3 trimesters. • Class meeting days vary: • 5, 3 or 2 days a week • You can schedule another class, or a study hall on the “off days” • Some classes repeat in different trimesters, while some are year-long or are held for two trimesters. • The Course Catalog lists meeting times. Cary Academy - 1500 N Harrison Ave - Cary, North Carolina

  11. Things to consider while making your selections What are your interests? • Consider C block as your opportunity to pursue an interest that is not met in your other classes. Are you committed to an Arts program already? • Look into pursuing that commitment further by looking at your specific options in the Course Catalog. Cary Academy - 1500 N Harrison Ave - Cary, North Carolina

  12. Do you have any extra-curricular commitments in a particular term? • This may be a good time to plan to use a daily study hall, or one that met a few times a week, to stay on top of your work. Do you feel ready to jump into US academics, or do you feel that you would benefit from an extra study hall? • Again, a study hall may benefit you as you transition to the Upper School. Cary Academy - 1500 N Harrison Ave - Cary, North Carolina

  17. This student would like to take Debate (ART225), which meets T/TH in T1 and T2. The student has accompanied that course in T1 with the Technical Theatre course that meets M/W/F. In T2, perhaps due to an extracurricular commitment, the student has opted to have a study hall three periods a week to accompany debate. And in T3, the student would like to take the 5-day a week Technical Theatre course or the second choice, a study hall, if the Technical Theatre class is full. By the end of 9th grade, if enrolled in all of the 1st choice courses, this student will have completed 5/6 credit toward the Arts graduation requirement.
