  2. Exercises that Require Spotting • Any exercise in which weight is supported by the trunk or placed over the head or face • Upper Body: Bench Press, Overhead Press and Skullcrushers • Lower body: Squats and Lunges

  3. Communication • Spotter and weight lifter must communicate during lifting • Both people need to develop an understanding of that communication • Cues?? Phrases??

  4. Technique • Spotter must be able to handle the weight • If he/she can’t alone, use multiple spotters • Spotter must remain focused- no distractions • If exerciser has difficulty completing a rep, spotter should instantly provide assistance in completing the rep • When lifter is finished, spotter assists in re-racking the bar

  5. Technique • Upper Body: position self behind lifter (single) or on side of bar (multiple); follow bar; be ready to assist • Lower Body: position self behind lifter with arms ready around lifter’s armpits; follow the lifter; be ready to assist
