Spring Semester Topics • Legal Issues (informed consent vs. advance directives) • Living wills to all • Physician Assisted Suicide vs. Palliative Sedation, Artificial Hydration, Artificial Nutrition • Cultural panel (Hispanic/Asian/Jewish/African American) • Alternative Therapies • Ethics Discussions (Paula Yellon)

  7. Fundraising Ideas • Selling pint glasses/coffee mugs • discountmugs.com • 5K run (spring) • To benefit interest group OR • To benefit construction of Joseph Riley Pediatric Hospice (will be the first in Baltimore)

  8. Community Service • Volunteer Program • Birthday Parties for inpatients • Sing Christmas carols to hospice inpatients (based on chaplain’s recommendations)

  9. Volunteer Program • Joseph Richey Hospice • Within blocks from school • In-patient unit • Currently constructing Pediatric Hospice • Most in need of volunteers

  10. Shadowing program • Univ. of MD Medical Center – new Palliative Care Center • Not currently involved in shadowing programs for third year curriculum • Physician may be available for shadowing (in addition to other disciplines) • Gives back to our school too (bonus when trying to get funding….)
