  11. Breastfeeding Policy Issues • Protection of the right to breastfeed in public. • Current state law protects a woman from being charged with indecent exposure while breastfeeding in public • Ideal law would provide the breastfeeding mother the right to feed her child in any place that she and the baby are permitted to be.

  12. Breastfeeding Policy Issues • Protection of breastfeeding mothers at work • Returning to work is the #1 reason many women stop breastfeeding within the first few months. • Some mothers choose to not start breastfeeding in anticipation of problems when returning to work • This issue is a policy priority for the WVBA

  13. Breastfeeding Policy Issues • Hospital Policies to support breastfeeding • Brief survey of hospitals indicated a wide range of breastfeeding practices and policies • Encourage and support them to adopt policies based on the US HHS Blueprint for Action on Breastfeeding

  14. Presentations • WV Growing Healthy Children Conference 2008 • Governor’s Conference on Worksite Wellness presented by the Wellness Council of WV • October 2008 • October 2009 • Seeking additional opportunities for presentations/exhibits
