Application Process: Student Responsibilities • Complete his/her portion of applications • Update and maintain his/her Naviance Student account • Schedule and attend a Counselor Meeting • Forward Standardized Test scores (directly from testing agency) • Request Teacher Recommendations (Via Naviance Student) • Submit Official Transcript Requests (Via Naviance Student) • Check Email regularly • Check application/transcript status in Naviance Student and on College Portals/accounts regularly • Continue to Visit Colleges • Request Senior Grades

Application Process:Counselor Responsibilities • Continue discussion regarding college exploration process • Guide students in finding the ‘best fit’ colleges (location, majors, cost, extracurricular opportunities, etc.) • Provide direction to support the application process • Review, prepare and send all official school documents to admissions offices • Provide resources on Scholarship opportunities, Financial Aid, and Networking opportunities

  10. Early Decision Vs Early Action • Early Decision vs Early Action… • Early Decision is BINDING and Early Action is NOT. If you are accepted Early Decision, you must withdraw all other pending applications • Early Decision Requires an agreement with 3 Electronic Signatures - Student, Parent, and Counselor and Early action requires none. • You can apply to only one school Early Decision and as many schools as you like Early Action. • Restrictive Early Action – Non Binding, yet only 1 allowed…

Trending… Student Reported Grades/Transcript • Please be very careful self reporting your grades, etc. If you have any questions or concerns in this regard, please do not hesitate to contact your counselor! This may be a time that you have someone review your entries, prior to hitting the submit button! • We mailed you a hard copy of your transcript; however, a copy is also located in Naviance, under About Me, My Stuff, Documents Shared with Me *Note: Please place the college in your colleges I am applying to list; however, DO NOT REQUEST TRANSCRIPTS FOR SELF-REPORT COLLEGES!

Online Must Haves… • Use appropriate email address and usernames • Appropriate use of social media: http://www.thecrimson.com/article/2017/6/5/2021-offers-rescinded-memes/ • Check email often- check spam filter for misplaced college emails • For each college applied, check portal for receipt of required documents

If you are applying to two or more colleges that accept the Common App, use it! www.commonapp.org Create a Common Application Account here Register using an appropriate username/email and password. Use the same email you use for your Naviance Student account. Please also use your name as it appears on your official transcript!

Common App updates and quick tips: • Many changes, now more mobile friendly • Improved work flows and modernization • Improved technical support • You must sign the FERPA agreement; however, you will/cannot invite recommenders through the common app… Please note, once you have signed the FERPA agreement, you cannot change it!!! • A counselor or teacher cannot send documents on your behalf to Common App if you have not Common App matched and placed the college in your Common App dashboard!

  17. To log into your Naviance Student Account… Can’t remember your password? Click on the “Forgot Your Password link”. A temporary password will be sent to your email. • Go to CR North’s Website • Click on Counseling Tab • Click on Naviance Student Logo at the bottom of the Welcome page • Enter email and password Or • Google Naviance Student click link for students and families • Put in our postal code 18940 • Choose CR North • Enter email and password

  19. Update Your Naviance Profile Click Edit to update information: All information here should be the same as it appears on your college applications and transcript! Pay particular attention to Name, birthdate and email address…

  20. Match Naviance Student account to Common App account… Because Common App and Naviance Student are partnered, you must link your accounts by “Common App Matching”.   23. To Common App Match – Emails and Birthdate must be the same in both accounts!

Request Official Transcripts • Transcripts can be requested and released only after the student has met with his/her counselor individually, AND, the Student/Parent Authorization form is completed and submitted. (Click here for form) • All transcripts are requested online via Naviance! • It is a best practice to follow the quick guide closely when requesting your transcripts!   25. What do we send upon transcript request? Your Transcriptand… …Supporting Documents which may include: • Secondary School Report (SR) • Letter of Recommendation (only if required and survey is filled out!) • School Profile (provides context…) • Senior year grades ( after marking period 1 and/or 2) by separate request – must submit a separate Senior Year Grade Request form (see slide 36)

  36. How do I request a Counselor Letter of Recommendation? Go to ‘About Me’ tab; then About Me Home

  37. How do I request a Counselor Letter of Recommendation? Click on See all Surveys to find the Counselor Letter of Recommendation Survey

How do I request a Counselor Letter of Recommendation? • By filling out the survey, and initialing the appropriate boxes on the parent authorization form, you have indicated to your counselor that you are in need of a counselor recommendation. This serves as your request. • Please follow Survey directions closely! In the past, students have expended a great deal of effort filling out this survey, only to lose the information... This is not a google doc, it does not automatically save!!!

  39. Teacher Recommendation Process • Verbally and appropriately ask your selected teacher. Please do not ask a teacher via email and or request a letter from Naviance Student until you have done so! • Determine how the teacher sends letters. If the teacher uses U.S. Mail, follow his/her direction. • If the teacher uses Naviance, request letter via Naviance Student. Click here for an instructional video. • One word of caution DO NOT use the “send to all current and future Colleges” option. • Like transcripts, letters cannot be sent until you have completed all required and necessary steps.

  41. How do I send my first quarter or midyear grades to colleges? • Keep in mind- Colleges typically consider only those grades they have requested! First Marking Period: • Submit Senior Year Grade Request Form for all requests: Midyear Grades:(includes first and second marking periods) • Submit the Senior Year Grade Request Form after January 1st * All grades are sent electronically, approximately 1 week after report card distribution

  43. Suggested Timeline Suggested Deadline: THANKSGIVING Last day to submit a transcript request for 2019 delivery: December 9th

  44. Quick List • Request individual meeting with your Counselor beginning September 4th. Meetings begin on September 11th. • Submit remaining LINCS hours before September 11th to Mr. Montgomery at reception. • Complete and submit applications either via Common Application or School specific website • Match your Common App Account in Naviance Student (if applicable) • Send SAT/ACT scores through collegeboard.org or actstudent.org • Request transcripts/teacher recommendations • Track status of transcript through Naviance Student and college portals • Request Senior year grades at appropriate time
