ESSA Every Student Succeeds Act West Virginia Consolidated State Plan Submitted to US Department of Education The plan is to provide financial assistance to local school districts with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that ALL children meet challenging State academic standards.

West Virginia Department of Education • MISSION • The West Virginia Board of Education establishes policies and rules to assure implementation of West Virginia's Education goals and to ensure the general supervision, oversight and monitoring of a thorough and efficient educational system. • Goal • The West Virginia Board of Education will provide a statewide system of education that ensures all students graduate from high school prepared for success in high-quality postsecondary opportunities in college and/or careers.

  5. LINCOLN COUNTY SCHOOLS Vision Statement Lincoln County Schools will prepare today’s learner to be tomorrow’s leaders. Core Beliefs: • Through continuous improvement, our school system will create the environment necessary for ALL students to achieve excellence. • Quality teaching and high expectations are the most influential factors in studentachievement. • Parents and the community are valued partners in our school system.

  8. Alice in Wonderland One day Alice came to a fork in the road. “Which road do I take?” she asked. “Where do you want to go?” responded the Cheshire cat. “I don’t know.” Alice answered. “Then,” said the cat, “it doesn’t matter”.

  9. Where do I go from here? Consider three major goals you want to accomplish this school year • Why do you want to accomplish this? • What evidence will be observed to determine if you are making progress with this goal? • What is required for you to have success with these accomplishments? • Do you have a timeline or time frame over the school year for this to be accomplished? Record the dates for each item. • Does this goal requiring effort, time and collaboration to be accomplished successfully?

  10. Wall Walk • As you complete your task, find a small and large clip and put your name or initials on the clip. • Start where the red, blue, yellow or purple foot is on the wall. Do a wall walk by reading the poster on the wall, starting with the color you choose. Walk and read until you return to the foot from which you started. • As you are reading the poster, find a poster that you feel strongly about and place the big clip, if you should find another poster that is also important to you place the little clip on it.

Good Classroom Management “What you do the first days of school to affect the lives of you students will determine your success the rest of the year.” - Harry Wong • Have a management framework that clearly defines roles and procedures that are least disruptive to learning • The learning environment is inclusive, organized, and student friendly • Learning time is valuable, don’t waste the students’ or your time. • The climate of the classroom is work-oriented but relaxed and pleasant

Policy 5310-Performance Evacuation of School Personnel and WV Professional Teaching Standards Key purposes: • Set high standards of performance • Ensure high quality instruction focused on increasing student achievement • Encourage continuous growth and improvement Aligned with the WV Professional Teaching Standards • Included in your notebook • 2 goals that focus on student learning • Levels of performance: Distinguished, Accomplished, Emerging, Unsatisfactory • Progressions: Initial, Intermediate, and Advanced • Initial: first three years of teaching, 4 observations and evidence submitted • Intermediate: fourth and fifth year of teaching, 2 observations and evidence submitted • Advanced: experienced teachers, self-reflection process
