2. Overview of the Session • In this session, we will be covering the curriculum development and processes for Ai system program models, considerations that should be given as you make the decision to offer a program on your campus, and Ai curriculum policies.

3. Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this module, you should be able to: • Identify the goals and guiding principles that guide program development, revision and implementation • Evaluate the efficacy of a new program, based on correlation with given criteria • Summarize the key components of the program development process • Discuss key policies and processes related to Ai system models of curriculum

4. Goals and Guiding Principles • Maintain stability and increase incremental SSB • Establish growth across the education systems • Focus on the present and the future • Create a program pipeline – continuum • Develop the program portfolio • Focus on the education system mission and student

6. Criteria for New Program Evaluation • School mission • Relationship to current programs • Job outlook and salaries • Capital requirements • New students/untapped students • Faculty • National and local markets/local industry • Industry trends

Ai Program System Models: Differentiation • Ai system program models are developed • Ai programs are outcomes-based • Ai program outcomes are industry-driven • Ai programs are developed and reviewed by using a team approach of employers, faculty subject-matter experts, instructional designers, and technology experts. Other functional areas are also represented. • All programs are reviewed and approved by an outside board (The Art Institute System coordinating Board – AiSCB)

The Ai Program Development Process • Call for new programs • Program Development Team • Criteria for Evaluation – mission, outcomes, market, capital, faculty, fit with current programs, etc. • Research – trends, competitive analysis, market, outcomes, etc. • DACUM & Curriculum Task Force (System models) • Review by stakeholders • EDMC System Coordinating Board Approval

9. Ai Program Review and Revision • Cycle of Review • Review of Key Drivers – New Students, Persistence, Employment Outcomes (jobs and salaries) • Industry Trends • Other • Determination – Is it a curriculum issue? • Process – similar to program development; different issues may require different strategies

10. Program Implementation Policies • Only approved Ai system models may be implemented • System models are located on the EDMC Intranet (under CS Academic Affairs Share Point site) • Provision is made for differences in state general education requirements • Local needs should be addressed through electives • Exceptions and approvals for other programs must be submitted for AiSCB approval – guidelines must be met • Approved exceptions are granted on a school-by-school basis only

11. Program Implementation Process • Determine feasibility (review white paper, market information, curriculum, local employment, etc.) • Review system model curriculum & syllabi with respect to general education needs • Establish Program Advisory Committee (PAC) • Prepare and submit state and accreditation applications • New student plan and ADA training • Marketing & Public Relations • Career Services – potential local employers

Implementation Process, cont. • Required facilities and space planning • Technology on hardware and software needed • Supply Store/Vendor - textbooks and kit • Library resources • New program must be set up in CARS/CampusVue • Identify and hire faculty • Train academic advisors • Ensure catalog is updated
