HOsA-100 Basics • What is a HOSA-100 Advisory Council? • The Advisory Council focuses on service rather than governance. • Purpose– The Advisory Council serves as a vital champion of HOSA—Future Health Professionals. • Mission– Members of the Advisory Council share their experience within service to HOSA’s mission by providing the organization with their professional expertise; their diverse knowledge of perspectives; their connections to local or national resources, colleagues or peers; and/or their philanthropic support or other forms of valued assistance.

HOSA-100 Benefits • What is the benefit to joining the HOSA-100? • Provides a means of involvement for those who are willing to give value-added assistance but have limited time • Connects industry leaders with future health professionals • Gives visibility to Council members as ambassadors of HOSA • Why should you consider establishing a HOSA-100 at the State Level? • Create awareness, exposure and opportunities for HOSA—Future Health Professionals • Connects HOSA members with access to internships and other work-based learning experiences • Increase sponsorship opportunities • Who should you invite to join the HOSA-100? • Representatives from any company/business with a significant presence in the area, hospitals, universities, community colleges, school districts, etc. • Tip: Don’t limit your recruiting to healthcare based businesses!

HOSA-100 NEXT STEPS implementation • How do you get started? • Identify your Vision, Mission and Goals for Advisory Council • Establish your internal goals for the Council • Increase scholarships, internships, apprenticeships, workshops, sponsorships (financial or in-kind), mentorships, etc. • Create Engagement Plan to recruit and retain members • Identify expectations of Council (including number of meetings, attendance at state conferences, etc.) • Decide on number of members to invite/recruit • Tip: Don’t reinvent the wheel! Utilize information from the National Advisory Council, Wisconsin Advisory Council and Ohio Advisory Council.
