  1. HMI Interface for Breakers on AMPS • Mahipathi Reddy Appannagari • NikUrlaub • Client: Brian K. Johnson • BEL G10, UI

  2. Overview • Project Summary • Analog Model Power System(AMPS) • Clearview Software • Human Machine Interface(HMI) • OPC standard • Communications • Results • Future Work

  3. Project Summary • The scope of the ECE 504 project is to develop an HMI interface for the breakers of the model power system in protection lab in G10 BEL • The original project was to develop an HMI interface for breakers and to synch laboratory generator with the MPS remotely.

  4. Analog Model Power System(AMPS) • It is a small scale model of part of the power system • It consists of two parallel line that are each broken into two segments with a source at each end of the line • Here it is primarily used as an educational tool to each protective relaying

  5. Analog Model Power System(AMPS) Model set-up

  6. SEL Relay Rack

  7. ClearView software • Developed by Relab software • Is a tool box for developing SCADA interfaces • Uses a Client-Sever Architecture • Has built capability to communicate with SEL relays

  8. Human Machine Interface (HMI) ClearView Client

  9. Human Machine Interface (HMI) • Developed using the ClearView 7.6.1 software • HMI consists of a Client and a Server • Server uses OPC standard • ReLab OPC isused to get data from SEL-2030

  10. Human Machine Interface (HMI) SEL-2505

  11. Human Machine Interface (HMI) SEL-2030

  12. Human Machine Interface (HMI) • Screens are updated every 1 sec • Breakers are controlled by the SEL-2505 SEL-2505 IN1 OUT1 IN2 OUT2 IN3 OUT3 IN4 OUT4 IN5 OUT5 IN6 OUT6 IN7 OUT7 IN8 OUT8 Ph A Status 3PT Ph A TRIP Ph B Status Ph B TRIP Ph C Status Ph C TRIP RECLOSE

  13. Human Machine Interface (HMI) • SEL-2030 gets the breaker status from the relays • Breakers can be controlled using HMI • Power Flow across the AMPS is displayed on the HMI

  14. OPC Standard • Object Linking and Embedding for Process Control(OPC) • Standard for open connectivity of industrial automation

  15. Communications

  16. Communications • Port 16 of SEL 2030 is used to communicate with the PC. • SEL 2030 communicates with other relays on other ports • Serial cable is used for the communication with a baud rate of 19200kbps

  17. Communications

  18. Communications • Implementing ethernet communication was attemptedbut the PC and SEL 2030 are on different ethernet networks. • IP address of SEL 2030 cannot be changed as it is accessed by fault matrix server PC

  19. Results • HMI interface - complete • Communication between the 2030 and ClearView over serial – complete

  20. Future Work • Dedicated PC for HMI with configurable IP address is recommended in Lab • Ethernet communication between SEL 3306 synchrophasor processor and PC need to be set up.
