Orbital Diagrams &Electron Configurations • Why are we learning this? • Orbital diagrams & electron configurations tell us where e- are. • Electrons tell us what type of bond will form. • Bond type will tell us how the substance will behave. • We can then predict how substances will interact with other substances.

Orbital Diagrams &Electron Configurations • The boxes you will see represent orbitals. • Orbitals can either be shown as boxes or circles. • Each orbital can hold only 2 electrons. • The higher up a box is, the higher the energy level. • Boxes fill up based on the element’s placement on the periodic table.
