  1. CIM Users Group Spring MeetingKey Note Address • Miroslav Vrba • Member of the Board • Grid Operations Control & ICT • CIMugGeneral Meeting • Wednesday, May 11, 2011

  2. Agenda • What is ČEPS ? • Our main challenges • Wind electricity from the North • Photovoltaic boom in the Czech Rep. • Upgrade of existing grid • Common Exchange Language Puzzle

  3. ČEPS Profile • State owned joint-stock company • Ownership unbundling in compliance with 3th EU package • Operation, maintenance and development of the 400 kV and 220 kV grid on the territory of the Czech Republic • Control the balance between electricity generation and demand in real time • Parallel operation with the power systems of neighbouringcountries via cross-border tie-lines according to binding ENTSO-E rules

  4. History of ČEPS unbundling • Mid nineties –an organizational unit of ČEZ  accounting and managerial unbundling • 1999 – daughter company owned by ČEZ  legal unbundling • 2003 – stock swap between ČEZ and the state  ownership unbundling

  5. European Context

  6. Transmission network in the CR

  7. Weekly peaks averages

  8. Load profile in the day of historical maximum – January 2006

  9. Main factors influencing thetransmission grid development duringthe years 2010- 2020 • Construction of the new power plants • Consumption growth especially in the north–east part of the country • Construction of the new wind farms in many places of the Czech Republic

  10. EWIS study: flow patterns and bottlenecks in 2015 – high wind scenario

  11. Regional view: typical real wind electricity flows in November Export area Import area

  12. Impact of „High Wind“ situation in North Sea and Baltic area on the Czech transmission system

  13. Photovoltaic boom - 2009 465 MW k 31.12. 2009 Zdroj: ERÚ

  14. Photovoltaic boom 2010 (today 1960 MW)

  15. Forecast and real generation of PV 27.2.2011

  16. Sunday, end of February Change of the weather – warm day in the winter

  17. Wrong forecast 3.3.2011

  18. Working day Lack of scheduled power Activation of ancillary services and balancing power from a neigborg

  19. The ICCP format (TASE2) seems to be sufficient for on-line exchanges today • A progressive common platform for off-line data exchanges is missing • The current „UCTE“ format can not support all TSO requirements, i.e.: • Every-day exchanges • Special and specific, not frequently used exchanges • Enhancement possibilities

  20. The CIM/XML format as the Unified Model Language seems to be the perspective option • The ENTSO-E CIM Model Exchange Profile can enable us to communicate with our SW applications, systems, equipment • We have three options: • to continue on „UCTE“ trial – not sustainable • abandon our ambitions of unity • to embrace the new ENTSO-E CIM language, nor quick either easy solution

  21. Let this conference contribute to solving this puzzle
