Problem Solving • Problem; Mass incarceration’s causes and affects on society and education • Problem solving strategies; Can this issue ever potentially have a positive influence, or should it be stopped? • Break down the question -Analyze question • Possible solutions; Think of the ways this issue can be resolved or alternatives. • Evaluate/choose best solution • Create action plan; What plan can you create that will support your position on the issue? • Implement plan; Reach social action.

Culmination End Product - By this time, you should have proposed an in depth and supported argument on the issue . • Ability to make text-to-text, text-to-personal, and text-to-world connections have improved and are seen in your essay. • Will understand the affects of mass incarceration from multiple perspectives.

  12. Summary Overall, the goal of this project is to have students fully understand the problem solving process. Once this process has been mastered, their interpretation of mass incarceration (whether they support or go against it) will allow them to build an argument based on these problem solving steps. Another important aspect of this project is to have students be able to view the issue from multiple perspectives. Having them understand the causes and affects of mass incarceration on a national level will help them understand how it affects everyone and not just those that are targeted by this issue.
