About Noord-Brabant • Surface: 5000 km2 • Inhabitants: 2.5 million (population density: 493/km2 land) • Demography: 14.5% > age 65 (will be 20% in 2030) • People are strongly organised on the social level: the clubs and societies for sports, leisure and common interest count over 600,000 members • The third top technological region on the European level with Eindhoven at the centre • Many knowledge centres and top higher education • Important service industries

  4. Flashback: Umeå & Valencia Many issues are related to demographic change: labour market policy, elderly care, fertility, reconcilliation work and family life, intergenerational solidarity. The complexity is the interaction of the issues. AER Committee 2 should deal with demographic changes. However, how do we do that? We need a roadmap for demographic change.
