  10. In Connecticut, recycling is state law! All public agencies & institutions, … e.g., colleges (UConn), hospitals (UConn Health Center)…must recycle certain items including: Glass & metal food & beverage containers. Cardboard, newspaper, white office paper. Scrap metal & waste oil. Lead acid batteries (from vehicles). Ni-Cad rechargeable batteries. Fluorescent bulbs/mercury containing bulbs. In 2008, UConn recycled 1100 tons of material!

  11. Important Notes: • Recycling Guidelines for UConn are likely to be more comprehensive than the guidelines in your town, including Mansfield. • UConn can accept plastics #1-7. • Although our plastics/glass/metal bin has slotted openings for beverage containers, ANY plastic #1-7 can be put in the bin by simply lifting the lid. • Corrugated cardboard needs to be flattened and placed next to the blue paper recycling bins for pick up.

  12. Common Misconceptions & Misplaced Items Remember: Although our plastics/glass/metal bin has slotted openings for beverage containers, ANY plastic #1-7 can be put in the bin by simply lifting the lid. Cardboard needs to be flattened and placed beside the blue recycling bins. It is ok to place stapled or paper clipped items in the paper bins The cup and lid need to be put in the trash. The brown cardboard can be placed in a blue paper recycling bin
